You know, actually I wanted to do a video review for this book. But I failed miserably.
I can’t sum up the content in any satisfying way…at least not when I am speaking only and there is no way I can present it in an adequate way except if I dress in my entire larp-outfit with chain armour and sword.
No seriously, I loved reading the Warded Man by Peter v Brett but I am failing in telling how awesome it is. You will have to believe me.
I’ll try nevertheless though because I am stubborn. :P
First of all I want you to know that whoever compares this author to Mr. Tolkien absolutely has the right to do so, because his work is absolutely fantastic. (And you read it ways faster *cough*…)
The Warded Man, or the Painted Man as the British call it, is an amazing high fantasy story that draws the reader into the world of our main heroes. Yes, you got that right, there is more than one character the story focuses on. You can totally feel with each of them though, simply because the way they feel, the way they act and the abyss they have to experience deep inside of them is described so very detailed and in an human way that you can’t look at it from the distance. You are right in the middle of their adventure, you suffer with them, you cry with them, you learn with them.
(See how I am failing to tell you about the actual story??? But then again I don’t want to spoil the content…)
To give you a hint about the actual storyline however:
Certainly you remember the time when you were a kid, lying in your bed not being able to sleep. Everything around you is dark and I am pretty sure everyone of us knows the feeling when there is a sudden noise, a shadow that you cannot identify. We all know about the monsters, ghouls and demons under our bed and in our closet. Only that in this book these fears are so very true. The monsters are real and they are haunting mankind without mercy. The adaption of natural fear? It’s far more. You will be captured in a world where the magic is alive, where people having been scared to death only have one decision: Finally start fighting or watch their world breaking apart. What would you do? Resurrect the old legends or let them fall into oblivion together with everything you hold dear?
If you are curious how our main characters – a male with the heart of a warrior, a women with the knowledge of nature and another male with a special gift – decide then GO GET YOURSELF A COPY OF THIS AMAZING BOOK!
Well..truth be told: I knew about this book for a long time but was afraid to read it first. Usually I need one night for a book but this piece of art offers 800 pages of adventure – that’s too much for one night only!!! But now I am really really happy and grateful Myke(APPLAUSE!!!) got me to read it because it was a unique experience and I crave for part two! (I WANT IT NOW!!!!) I promise that every minute you spend with this book will totally be worth it. Actually yes, there is another promise I can make: You will love it.

Well…as you can see now, after almost 600 words, it’s hard to describe it but maybe you can capture the feeling it gave me.

Oh and btw… Peter v Brett is an awesome guy. (Yes, listen up you comic nerds, this man knows your needs!)
If you have some time left please check out his homepage and take a peek into the world of the Warded Man.

(No, I am not getting paid for this, I really want you to read it.)

Anyway, ranted enough, now get your butts up and towards the next bookstore!
